Summer is here and the BBQs are fired up all over Manitoba. Join in the grilling fun and try this simple homemade BBQ sauce recipe. It is simple and easy and there is nothing quite like a homemade sauce to take your barbecuing skills to the next level.
Apple BBQ Sauce
Yield: 4 cups Prep Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
3 tbsp Dry Mustard Powder
1 cup Brown Sugar
¼ cup Jalapenos, chopped
¼ cup Chili Powder
½ cup Orange Juice
4 cups Ketchup
2 cups Water
¼ cup Molasses
8 cloves Garlic, minced
1 tbsp Salt
2 tsp Pepper
5 Apples, peeled and sliced
1 cup Apple Juice
¼ cup Balsamic Vinegar
Method:
Place all ingredients in a large pot and place on medium-high heat. Bring to a simmer. Turn down heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Take off heat and set aside to cool for 30 minutes. Once cooled, carefully puree the sauce with a hand blender or food processor.
Chef Tips:
- Make this sauce the day before your BBQ. It will cut down on prep time and you will have more time to enjoy your grilling experience.
- This sauce is an excellent addition to beef, pork, chicken, or bison
- This sauce can be stored in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to two weeks
- Variations of this sauce can be made using other fruit. Examples: blueberries, raspberries, peaches, etc.
