I just read that John Berry, who once worked at CFRN television in Edmonton, passed away last week after a battle with cancer. I was sad to read this. I didn’t really know John. He would never remember me. But, back when I was getting my diploma in broadcasting, a dozen or so years ago, I did an internship at CFRN. I remember going out to an event where he was doing on-location promotional spots. I wasn’t from Edmonton, so really had no idea who he was, so was pretty shocked to see just how loved he was by the public, and in return, how much he loved the people of Edmonton. He was a genuine celebrity, with a huge smile and a way with people. I will always remember him because of that experience. I’m sure he is greatly missed by many.
