Here is a short profile of celebrated Canadian artist Jane Ash Poitras by the University of Alberta from 2011 just prior to her being given the Lieutenant Governor’s Alberta Distinguished Artist Award. She is more than deserving of this distinction to say the least.
“Lieutenant Governor’s Alberta Distinguished Artist Jane Ash Poitras discusses the role of the U of A’s famed printmaking program in shaping her career.
Poitras, who holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in printmaking, as well as a degree in microbiology from the U of A, is an internationally acclaimed visual artist whose work has been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world. She is a long-standing sessional instructor with the U of A’s Faculty of Native Studies and a highly sought-after guest lecturer across North America. She receives her award along with another U of A alum, Robert Kroetsch, in Saint-Albert April 9.”
