‘Shut Up and Bend Over’ returns

What better way to make people aware of prostate cancer than through laughter? It’s a heavy topic that needs a bit of lightening up. Well, prepare to laugh, Tuesday, November 26, when Shut up and Laugh Productions presents the Shut up and Bend Over 2 Comedy Showcase For Prostate Cancer Awareness. See what they did there? Kind of neat, eh.

Thus far, the lineup for this second annual event looks incredible, with promoter Nelson Mayer, Tim Lowing, Ryan Ash, Dan Glasswick, Scott Porteous, Dean Jenkinson, Jason BeckAl Rae and feature special guest comic Matt Falk all taking the stage.

Now, before you grab your tickets and head off to the show, here are a few prostate cancer facts to ponder from the official Movember Canada website. This is the most common cancer affecting Canadian men, and the second largest cause of cancer deaths in this country. Statistics show that 1 in 7 men will get prostate cancer, with 1 out of 28 dying. This year, an estimated 23,600 new cases will be diagnosed in Canada. Sadly, 3,900 will die. However, there is good news: There is a 95 per cent survival rate if prostate cancer is detected early. That means, you should be going to your doctor and bending over. Nip it in the bud early, and survive!

All proceeds from the show will be donated to CancerCare Manitoba. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. You can get your tickets at South of Heaven Tattoos and Body Piercing, 972 St. Mary’s Road, or call Nelson Mayer at (204) 218-3257. The event will be held at Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain, 340 boulevard Provencher in Winnipeg.  It’s perfectly timed towards the end of Movember so you can show off your bushy moustache.
